Calum Harris, 26, whose book The 20-Minute Vegan was a bestselling cookery debut in 2023, has signed a two-book deal with Carnival at Quarto. Eleanor Maxfield acquired world rights from Anna Dixon at YMU.
His first Carnival title, Proper Healthy, a nutrition-focused plant-based cookery book, is due for publication in January 2025.
Recipes include Harris’ "pretend-like-you’re-in-LA" smoothie bowl, gingery basil rainbow noodle jars, Tempeh taco bowl with chipotle crema and his pistachio and orange semolina cake.
Harris said: "I loved writing the first book, and I’m extremely lucky that I’ve got a chance to do it again with Eleanor at Quarto. For me, writing a cookbook must give the reader a solution to their cooking problems, but also tell a story within each recipe. If I’m not inspired by the idea, then I won’t write. This second book of mine, Proper Healthy, is the most excited I’ve been with anything I’ve done. I can’t wait to bring it out to the world."
Maxfield said: "I’ve always wanted to publish Calum and have long admired his market awareness and drive. We’re thrilled to champion him at Carnival and look forward to building an exciting list of titles that showcase his ‘always delicious; never boring’ food. We can’t wait to launch this savvy cookbook that helps you curate your meals and easily meet your nutritional needs."
Harris started out making vegan food on Instagram in 2019, amassing thousands of followers before Bluebird at Pan Macmillan signed him up for his debut cookery book in 2022.
