Cassell has acquired 50 Years of Emmerdale: The Official Story of TV’s Iconic Rural Drama by the soap opera’s archivist Tom Parfitt.
Publisher Trevor Davies acquired world all language rights from Shirley Patton, head of publishing at ITV Studios, for publication on 29th September 2022.
According to the publisher, 50 Years of Emmerdale is “packed with history, engrossing features, long-lost imagery, and plenty of behind-the-scenes detail.”
“Each character, event, family and location are explored in exhaustive detail, with special features on ’Emmerdale’ legends, the show’s villains, births, marriages, deaths, and celebrity cameos, bringing all the highlights together with interviews and insights from cast and crew members past and present,” its synopsis continues.
“The book also features two gatefold sections showcasing key family trees, a complete fold out map of ’Emmerdale’ and bespoke artworks for each location, making it a truly desirable package to read or give as a gift.”
Davies said: “It’s incredible to think that ’Emmerdale’ is 50 years old and yet it’s never been more popular. It’s a mark of the skill of those that work on the show that it is still as relevant and entertaining as ever, with impressive viewing figures.
“It’s been a true pleasure to work with the team at ’Emmerdale’ and produce such a beautiful book, which I’m sure will be a hit with fans of the soap. Tom has such a wealth of ’Emmerdale’ knowledge about the programme and has a real gift for bringing all those incredible plots, characters and incidents together in an absorbing and fun read. His text, combined with some beautiful artworks, a wealth of stills and comprehensive stats and facts, make this a real treat for ’Emmerdale’ viewers.”
John Whiston, ITV’s m.d. of continuing drama and head of ITV in the north, said: “The book is a jam-packed labour of love and brings the 50-year history of ’Emmerdale’ to life in all its glory, drama, horror and mayhem. Plus it’s bang up to date so it will be a delight to long-term fans and to people drawn in by the most recent, exciting goings on in Britain’s best-loved, if slightly benighted, village.”
