Octopus imprint Cassell has scored Classic FM’s first puzzle book, promising hours of musical trivia, visual teasers and challenges.
Joe Cottington, senior commissioning editor at Octopus Publishing Group, acquired world rights in all languages from Classic FM, the UK’s biggest classical music station, reaching 5.3 million listeners a week. The Classic FM Puzzle Book will be published on 3rd October.
Described by the station as a “labour of love”, the book features more than 100 classical conundrums aimed at music fans of all levels of knowledge. It blends together basic trivia, complex wordplay and a range of visual teasers.
The book also includes a foreword by Classic FM presenter Alexander Armstrong.
Cottington said: “Classic FM is the biggest classical music radio station in the UK, and this collection is the perfect way for their millions of listeners to test their knowledge – from themed puzzles and teasers to entries designed to raise a smile. Is Fiore Sardo an opera or a type of cheese? Is Pinottini a composer or a variety of pasta? With this wonderful puzzle book, we’ll finally discover the answers.”
Managing editor of the station, Sam Jackson, added: “Making The Classic FM Puzzle Book was a labour of love as we wanted to ensure it featured a mix of puzzles and questions suitable for every classical music fan, from seasoned music lovers to brand-new listeners. Regardless of how much the reader knows, this book is the perfect entertainment. We just hope it doesn’t bring out too much of a competitive side.”
