Century has acquired This Time Next Time Year: A Life of Positive Thinking, a new volume of memoirs by Sir David Jason, to be published in October 2024.
The world rights deal was struck between Ben Brusey, publishing director at Century, and Vivienne Clore at Vivienne Clore Artist Management. Century will publish in hardback, audiobook (read by the author) and e-book on 24th October 2024, with a Penguin paperback to follow in 2025.
The synopsis reads: “Told with characteristic warmth and humour, David Jason reveals the hard-won wisdom of a life doggedly led, getting through one day, looking to the next, and always chasing what’s new on the horizon. Throughout his remarkable career, David’s north star for navigating life’s challenges has been his positive outlook and his resilience. Sometimes, art has seemed to imitate life. ‘This time next year, we’ll be millionaires’ was what his iconic Only Fools character Derek Trotter once said.
“Such a dream was almost unimaginable for David growing up in a working-class family in North Finchley in the rubble of the Blitz. But David’s never-say-never spirit could not be dimmed. From a trainee electrician to national treasure, David’s bumpy journey to success has overcome obstacle after obstacle. Candidly revealing the ups, the downs, and the roundabout turns, David’s book will uplift, entertain and inspire readers, offering an essential, unvarnished primer to leading a good life.”
Jason said: “Writing my books and sharing my life with the great British public continues to be a source of enormous pleasure and pride for me. I am continually overwhelmed by readers’ support and kindness. With this latest book I want to show that there is always hope, and often quite a few laughs, to be found lurking around the next corner in life, however improbable things may seem. I hope readers enjoy going on this latest jaunt with me, and I hope they have as much fun reading it as I’ve had writing it.”
Brusey added: “With well over one million copies sold and counting, readers continue to adore Sir David Jason’s warm and hilarious books. This Time Next Year is David’s funniest and most life-affirming memoir yet. Full of positive, self-deprecating life advice, this book is a balm for the soul, and the perfect read for David’s many fans this autumn.”
