Charco Press has bagged another novel by Latin American crime writer Claudia Piñeiro.
Carolina Orloff, editorial director, acquired world English rights to A Little Luck from Barbara Graham at Schavelzon Graham literary agency. It will publish in July 2023 and will be translated by Frances Riddle.
The novel centres on a woman who returns to her native Argentina after fleeing to escape a dreadful accident—and social condemnation—20 years earlier. But the woman who returns is not the same: she doesn’t look the same, her voice is different, she doesn’t even have the same name. After two decades, this damaged woman has rebuilt her life. Will those who knew her even recognise her? And most importantly, will she be able to forgive herself when faced with her past?
Orloff said: “We’re delighted to be bringing Claudia Piñeiro’s A Little Luck to her English-speaking fans around the world. A Little Luck is a powerful and gripping novel about many universal themes such as motherhood, love, grief and the possibility of changing our lives forever, told from the unique insight of one of Latin America’s most popular writers.”
Piñeiro is known internationally for her crime novels, which have become increasingly political, reflecting the active role she plays in campaigning for women’s rights in Argentina and Latin America. She has won numerous national and international prizes, and many of her novels have been adapted for the big screen, including Elena Knows, which is coming out on Netflix in 2023. Piñeiro was also nominated for the 2022 International Booker Prize for Elena Knows.
