Charco Press has snapped up Time of the Flies, a "suspenseful" crime novel from Claudia Piñeiro, translated by Frances Riddle.
Carolina Orloff, director and publishing director, acquired world English rights from the Schavelzon-Graham Literary Agency. The novel will be published on 6th August 2024.
The synopsis for Time of the Flies reads: "Fifteen years after killing her husband’s lover, Inés is fresh out of prison and trying to put together a new life. Her old friend Manca is out now too, and they’ve started a business – FFF, or Females, Fumigation and Flies – dedicated to pest control and private investigation, by women, for women. But Señora Bonar, one of their clients, wants Inés to do more than kill bugs – she wants her expertise, and her criminal past, to get her to kill her husband’s lover, too. When Inés’ estranged daughter shows up, however, we realise that things are not as they seem."
Orloff said: ‘We are extremely excited to be publishing Claudia Piñeiro’s most recent novel, that masterfully combines suspense, social criticism, humour and the power of literature. Readers of Elena Knows will not be disappointed; on the contrary, I think they will be left asking for more!"
Piñeiro added: "I am thrilled that English-speaking readers can now be part of the story and the universe I tried to portray in Time of the Flies. I think the novel is very contemporary and can speak to readers anywhere in the world. But for that to happen, the book has to be translated. A translation into English not only allows it to reach readers in that language but also to travel on to other worlds since publishers working in other languages will discover it in English and so add new translations."
