Bloomsbury is to publish Herding Cats by literary agent Charlie Campbell, a book on "the art of amateur cricket captaincy".
Publisher Charlotte Atyeo bought world English rights to the title from Nicola Barr at Greene & Heaton.
Herding Cats is an "entertaining guide to the trials, tribulations and shambling joy of amateur cricket captaincy".
Campbell, director and literary agent at Kingsford Campbell, uses his experience as captain of the Authors Cricket Club to steer a path through the minefield of an amateur’s season, from "handling the most delicate egos, to dealing with a case of the yips; from frequent moments of despair, to sudden and joyful glimpses of unexpected glory".
Former England cricket captain Mike Brearley, whose book The Art of Captaincy (Channel 4 Books) is a touchstone for Campbell, provides the foreword.
Campbell said: "I’m utterly delighted to have Charlotte Atyeo and Bloomsbury as publisher for this book on leading the unleadable. And it is wonderful to have a foreword from the cricketer who inspired it."
Atyeo said: "In Herding Cats, Charlie offers the amateur team an irreverent New Testament to The Art of Captaincy’s much-respected Old Testament. His approach to captaincy treads the balance between the sublime and the ridiculous, which is enormous fun – and I’m sure will resonate with many, many Sunday cricketers.’
Bloomsbury will publish Herding Cats on 9th March 2017.
