Hodder & Stoughton has acquired two books by Charlotte Butterfield, including My Second-Chance Life, to be published in 2022.
Commissioning editor Thorne Ryan bought world rights to two books at auction from Hannah Schofield at LBA Books. My Second-Chance Life will be published in paperback and e-book in April 2022.
The first title in the deal will follow Jessica Bay, a woman whose children hate her, whose husband often comes home smelling of perfume and who doesn't have a work-life balance. Her job sends her to a remote island and Jessica discovers a secret: if you sit on the cliff-top bench and watch the sunset, you can return the next morning to any day in your past.
Ryan said: "As soon as I opened My Second-Chance Life, I was completely hooked. The premise is irresistible, the voice is one of the strongest I’ve ever read, and it made me both laugh and cry. If I had the option to relive a day in my life, I would return to the day it came to me on submission so that I could discover it for the first time all over again! I am over the moon to be publishing not only it but a second book by the outrageously talented Charlotte Butterfield on my list at Hodder."
Butterfield commented: "I think most of us have moments in our lives where we wish we could re-do a conversation or go back and change things in our past and My Second Chance Life was born out of this. I am absolutely delighted to be joining Thorne and the fabulous team at Hodder, who have been hugely passionate about this novel from the beginning, and I can’t wait to start working with them."
Butterfield previously published three novels with One More Chapter (previously Harper Impulse): A Beautiful Day for a Wedding (2018), Crazy Little Thing Called Love (2017) and Me, You and Tiramisu (2017).
