Chelsea Green Publishing will publish Corona, False Alarm? by Dr Sucharit Bhakdi and Dr Karina Reiss, which has been a bestseller in Germany.
The publisher acquired world English language rights from Austrian publisher Goldegg Verlag, which published the title in German. The book will be published in the UK on 1st October 2020.
In Corona, False Alarm?, Bhakdi and Reiss are said to aim to give clarity to the confusing and stressful times of the pandemic. They will offer analysis of whether protective measures — including lockdown, social distancing and mandatory masking — have been justified, and what the ramifications have been for society, the economy and public health.
Publisher Margo Baldwin said: "We are really excited to have acquired world English rights to Corona, False Alarm? Ever since the early days of the pandemic and the consequent worldwide response of massive lockdowns and forced shutdowns of businesses and even entire healthcare systems, I have been looking for a book by scientists that used data at its heart to raise questions about both the deadliness of the virus and the massive societal shifts that have occurred as a result.
"Hopefully this book will bring some awareness of what the real situation is and will allow us all to quell the fear and to go back to some kind of normal."
According to the publisher, the title has sold 350,000 copies in German since it was published in June.
