Cinto Press, an imprint of Bath Publishing, has signed the début novel from reporter Louise Tickle titled Between the Lies.
Publisher David Chaplin acquired world rights directly from the author. The novel will be published on 19th October 2023.
Between the Lies was inspired by Tickle’s work as a journalist and broadcaster reporting on social affairs and family law. It is a “gripping and dramatic page-turner” that gives “readers a rare insight into the complex emotional tussles played out behind the closed doors of private hearings”.
Tickle commented: “I’ve known David and Helen at Cinto Press since I began reporting on family courts some eight years ago, so I was thrilled when they said they wanted to publish my first book, a thriller about domestic abuse, femicide and child protection. Their legal publishing background meant they completely grasped the hidden nature of the family justice process, which is an integral part of the story, and understood the nuances of what happens in court hearings held behind closed doors, where judges make decisions that can change families’ lives forever.”
Chaplin added: “Louise has helped us on and off for several years on our books about the family courts. When she got in touch to say she had written a novel, I said I’d have a look to see if we could send her in the right direction. Then I read it, and realised it was so good that we had to find a way to publish it ourselves.”
