Claire North’s new novel, 84K (Orbit) has been optioned by Tall Story Pictures, an ITV Studios production company that plans to develop it as an international television drama series.
A piece of speculative fiction publishing in May, 84K imagines a world in which people’s lives are assigned a monetary value, based on how "useful" they are deemed to society.
The book is the sixth to be written the first under the Claire North name, which is a pseudonym for the author Catherine Webb.
The first she wrote as Claire North was The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August, a Richard and Judy, Radio 2 and Waterstones book club title, rights to which are under option with Blueprint Pictures, the production team behind the film "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri".
