Former US president Bill Clinton and thriller giant James Patterson are teaming up again to co-write their second novel together, The President's Daughter.
Cornerstone m.d. Susan Sandon bought UK and Commonwealth (excluding Canada) and exclusive European rights in a deal struck with Robert Barnett and Deneen Howell of Williams & Connolly.
The President's Daughter will be published by Century in hardcover, e-book, and audiobook in June 2021, with a simultaneous release in North America where it will be published jointly by Alfred A Knopf and Little, Brown & Company.
Clinton and Patterson co-wrote 2018's The President is Missing, which has sold over 3.2 million copies worldwide to date, according to the publisher. The novel sold 258,194 copies across all editions via Nielsen BookScan's UK Total Consumer Market.
The President's Daughter will be a second standalone thriller with a new cast of characters. It follows a former president of the United States, now relocated to rural New Hampshire, whose daughter is kidnapped. The reissued paperback of The President is Missing, out on sale on 26th May, will carry an early extract.
Clinton said: “I never imagined I’d be writing a book with a master storyteller like Jim, much less two. I was grateful for the success of the first book, and I believe readers will enjoy reading The President's Daughter as much as I’m enjoying working on it."
“Working with former President Clinton has been a highlight of my career, and I’m thrilled to have the chance to write with him again,” said Patterson. “It was gratifying to see the enthusiastic response to our first book, and I’m eager to get The President's Daughter into the hands of readers—they won’t be disappointed.”
Sandon added: "We had such fun launching The President is Missing, one of the biggest commercial thriller successes of 2018, and I think that the irresistible mix of insider knowledge and edge of your seat suspense will once again prove a winning formula.”
Clinton and Patterson will be available for interviews at the time of publication, with tour plans to "be determined at a later date".
