Liverpool-based independent Dead Ink its to publish a collaborative horror novella written by Jenn Ashworth and Richard V Hirst.
The publisher holds world rights to the title, The Night Visitors, which concerns two women who are connected by the “notorious” Gosforth Massacre of 1917, a murder case famous among true-crime fans and internet sleuths.
The women strike up an email conversation and begin an uneasy investigation into their mutual ancestor Hattie Soak. ln this novella, the technology that "connects us" is said to become the "conduit of unexpiated evil" in a story told entirely via the exchange of emails.
Nathan Connolly, director of Dead Ink, said: “The innovative approach that Jenn and Richard have taken to writing The Night Visitors perfectly illustrates what Dead Ink is about. It also helps that the book, though short, should be a feast for horror fans. Dead Ink is thrilled to be working with writers as talented as these two”.
Dead Ink will publish in 2017 and is looking to sell translation and international rights at this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair.
