Constable has acquired a three-book crime series by Singapore-based author Ovidia Yu.
Krystyna Green, publishing director at Constable, acquired world rights in the series, known as The Crown Colony Mysteries, from Priya Doraswamy at US agency Lotus Lane.
First book in the series, The Frangipani Tree Mystery, is set in Singapore in 1936, at a time when the British abdication crisis and rising Japanese threat seem far away. The detective novels follow an aspiring journalist, trying to escape an arranged marriage, who takes up the post of nanny for the acting governor's daughter, after her predecesor is murdered. When another murder at the residence occurs, it takes all of SuLin’s skill and intelligence to help British born chief inspector Thomas LeFroy to solve the murders - and escape with her own life.
Constable will publish The Frangipani Tree Mystery in June 2017, with books two and three set to follow in 2018 and 2019.
