Constable has netted former Heaven 17 and Human League band member Martyn Ware’s "extraordinary" memoir Electronically Yours.
Andreas Campomar, non-fiction publisher, acquired world rights from Matthew Hamilton at the Hamilton Agency. The memoir will be published on 25th August 2022.
Ware gives readers insight into his "austere" upbringing in Sheffield, his friendship with former bandmate Phil Oakley, experimentation in the "Synth Britannia" era and his production career. "But Martyn’s life outside the music industry is just as compelling," wrote the publisher. "He also touches poignantly on politics, culture, humour, film, sport and more."
Campomar said: "Electronically Yours is everything you’d expect from a book by the multi-talented Martyn Ware: intelligent, amusing, poignant, musically literate, as well as politically engaged. It is, above all, a warm-hearted and generous book."
Ware commented: "I’ve been thinking for years about writing my autobiography then boom! Lockdown. If not now, when? After two years of writing, it is finally finished. It’s been a fascinating process, full of unexpected realisations and long-forgotten revelatory memories. What a journey... I’ve tried to be as honest as possible in the making of this book and I’ve been touched by such kindness from so many people; with their generous help, at last I realise who I’ve been all along. I hope everyone enjoys reading it as much as I did writing it."
