Little, Brown imprint Constable has acquired Bunnyman, the memoir from Echo and the Bunnymen guitarist Will Sergeant.
Sergeant grew up in Liverpool in the 1960s and '70s when "skinheads, football violence and fear were the natural order of things", says the publisher. Sergeant discovered the emerging punk scene and was fuelled by and thrived on music, spending night after night at Liverpool punk club Eric’s. His devotion to music and a fortuitous meeting with Ian McCulloch led to the birth of the band Echo and the Bunnymen.
Bunnyman will chart their story from council house estate to becoming one of the iconic bands of the ’80s.
Andreas Campomar, non-fiction publisher, acquired world rights (excluding US and Canada) from Matthew Hamilton at The Hamilton Agency. Constable will publish on 15th July 2021.
Campomar said: "Bunnyman is that rare music memoir: witty, explicit and reflective. Will’s is an extraordinary story of raw talent, tenacity and luck well told."
Sergeant commented: "I have enjoyed every minute writing my first book. I have stepped into a time tunnel and have excavated memories buried deep – from the birth of a council estate kid to being born again as a Bunnyman."
