Constable has acquired Deadline Day: The Inside Story of Football’s Transfer Market by sports journalists Jim White (talkSPORT) and Kaveh Solhekol (Sky Sports).
Andreas Campomar, non-fiction publisher, acquired world rights from Phil Smith at First Artist. Constable will publish on 19th October in hardback, e-book and audiobook.
The description reads: “For three months every year football clubs buy and sell human beings. People who are so good at their job that clubs are willing to spend millions and millions of pounds on them, and for good reason; the right deal can help you win football’s top prizes while the wrong deal can cost you your job and bankrupt your club. It’s a fast-paced, at times murky and cutthroat world worth billions – and Jim White and Kaveh Solhekol have been at its heart for decades.”
White said: “One of the biggest developments in football over the past 20 or so years has been the phenomenal growth of the transfer market. I’ve been lucky enough to get as close as a journalist can to the biggest deals during that time and Deadline Day is an inside account of what was really going on.
"All the big names are here, from Gascoigne to Kane, from Ronaldo to Mbappé, from the UK, Italy and Spain all the way to China and Saudi Arabia. I hope people will enjoy reading about all the twists and turns, all the intrigue and subterfuge, and all the nail-biting drama of what’s become a multi-billion-pound global industry.”
Campomar said: “Jim and Kaveh, two leading experts on the global transfer window, have drawn the curtain on one of the most secretive areas of football. Deadline Day is a game-changing book, one that asks some serious questions of the beautiful game.”
