Constable signs Neil Broadfoot to pen new Stirling-set crime series

Constable has signed crime writer Neil Broadfoot in a three-book deal to write a new contemporary series set in Stirling in Scotland.

Krystyna Green, publishing director at Constable, acquired world rights for the first three books in the new crime series from Broadfoot, represented by Bob McDevitt.

The first in the series, No Man’s Land, introduces readers to Connor Fraser, a close protection consultant looking for a quiet life in Stirling. But when a horrifically mutilated body is discovered close to Stirling Castle, he is drawn into an investigation that reaches deep into his past and threatens to expose secrets those in the corridors of power would pay any price to keep. 

Green said she had wanted to commission Broadfoot "for years" and the result was "absolutely fitting" having sprung from a conversation with him and his agent at Bloody Scotland.

Broadfoot was previously published by Contraband, with whom he published his debut Falling Fast in 2014, and subsequently The Storm and All the Devils in the same series in 2015 and 2016, all featuring crime journalist Doug McGregor. Falling Fast was shortlisted for both the Bloody Scotland and Dundee International Book of the Year Award.

Broadfoot said: “It’s a huge honour to join Constable and the incredible wealth of talent that’s there. I’ve always loved Stirling, and it’s steeped in some of Scotland’s bloodiest history so it’s the perfect location to base Connor. He’s a tougher, more decisive character than I’ve written before and I can’t wait to introduce readers to him.”

Constable will be publishing No Man’s Land in hardback in July 2018.
