Coronet has pre-empted Hema Sukumar’s “heartwarming” debut novel about the lives of various inhabitants at an apartment complex in Chennai.
Editorial director Melissa Cox acquired world rights in all languages for Minor Disturbances at Grand Life Apartments from Diana Beaumont at Marjacq, to be published on 28th July 2023.
Against a backdrop of precariousness as the apartment complex comes under threat, the novel details the “sharp turns” in the residents’ lives and their life-changing consequences.
Cox said: “I fell in love with this book within the first few pages. It is warm, funny, comforting and full of loveable characters. In the cold winter months of 2022, spending time in sunny Chennai through Hema’s beautifully assured and evocative writing was almost as good as a holiday.”
Sukumar added: “I feel incredibly lucky to have Melissa and the team at Coronet send my debut novel out into the world. I am also very thankful for my agent, Diana Beaumont, for believing in this story and finding it the perfect home. I can’t wait to take readers on a journey to my hometown of Chennai in India, and invite them to reside at Grand Life Apartments.”
