Coronet has acquired the moving and inspiring memoir by trailblazing trans couple Hannah and Jake Graf.
Hannah Black, publisher, acquired world rights in all languages to Becoming Us from Max Parker at The Matchstick Group. Becoming Us will be published in hardback, e-book and audiobook on 29th June 2023.
The publisher says: “Becoming Us is the joint memoir of the UK’s most visible transgender couple, Jake and Hannah Graf. Through their powerful and deeply compelling story, we follow their extraordinary paths towards the ‘normality’ they have always longed for, navigating many challenges and pitfalls along the way.
“Assigned female at birth, Jake knew from a young age that he was in a body that didn’t fit. Hannah was assigned male at birth and grew up hiding her innate femininity. Their journeys were wildly different, Jake falling into addictions, Hannah excelling in the British Army. It was only after they found themselves that they were ready to find each other, and to create a life and family together that they had never believed possible.”
In a joint comment the couple said: “Working with Coronet on Becoming Us has been an emotional roller-coaster for us both. Revisiting our somewhat colourful pasts has been a painful and humbling journey but despite the often upsetting memories and stumbles, a cathartic one. We hope with all our hearts that by telling our stories we can dispel some of the myths around trans people, demonstrate that we are just as ordinary as anyone else and bring some much-needed kindness and understanding to the transgender experience.”
Black said: “Jake and Hannah are among the most remarkable people I’ve been lucky enough to get to know. Their energy, eloquence and courage is incredibly inspiring to witness. They have had to overcome unimaginable obstacles in order to simply be themselves and, as we know, this battle continues. Deciding to tell their story is both brilliant and brave and we are very proud to bring their book to readers everywhere."
