Coronet is publishing a second book by the author of Hurrah for Gin, Katie Kirby.
The first book in two-book deal with the author, The Daily Struggles of Archie Adams, Aged 2 ¼, will publish in hardback in October 2017.
Coronet publisher Charlotte Hardman agreed a two-book deal for world rights with Jon Elek of United Agents.
The Daily Struggles of Archie Adams, Aged 2 ¼ will take on the highs and lows of family life through the eyes of Archie, a highly opinionated, creatively stifled modern day toddler. It will be illustrated with Kirby's unique stick-man drawings and written in her humourous style, its aim to leave parents everywhere recognising something of their own children in Archie.
Debut Hurrah for Gin by Katie Kirby was based on the blog of the same name to provide an account of parenting, extensively illustrated with the author’s unique stick men drawings, marketed as "an antidote to the traditional how-to parenting manuals" embracing parenthood "warts and all".
Kirby said: "When Coronet first approached me to write a book I was delighted thinking it would be something I could keep forever but I didn't really expect that many people would buy it. I have been blown away by the response and the icing on the cake is that I have managed to make drawing ridiculous, sweary, stick man cartoons into an actual job. Archie Adams is proving so much fun to write and I'm excited to be working with the incredibly talented Charlotte Hardman and the Coronet team who continue to make the whole process so enjoyable."
Hardman said: "We are immensely proud to publish Katie Kirby and of the success that we have achieved together with Hurrah for Gin. Katie has an incredible eye for the observational detail and is a very gifted writer who talks directly to a vast audience of like-minded parents. Her style is so natural, often wickedly funny and sometimes downright silly but also she has the ability to be very moving and has really touched a nerve with those facing their own challenges when starting a family and having children. We couldn’t be happier to be working with Katie to continue to build on her phenomenal success, she is a star that only continues to rise."
