Corsair, an imprint of Little, Brown, has acquired an anonymously authored self-publishing success story called Diary of an Oxygen Thief.
The "pitch-black love story" was originally self-published in the US in 2006, and earlier this year - having sold just short of 100,000 copies, driven by the author's own social media marketing and PR efforts - it was snapped up in the US by Simon & Schuster.
Corsair bought UK and British Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) from Rachel Clements at Abner Stein on behalf of Byrd Leavell at Waxman Leavell in New York.
The novel, about a broken-hearted alcoholic and misogynist, has been described by L,B as "an honest, hilarious, and heartrending novel, but above all, a very realistic account of what we do to each other and what we allow to have done to us".
Corsair will publish in paperback original on 31st August, priced £8.99.
