The Borough Press has acquired two new novels from Joanna Glen, author of the Costa-shortlisted The Other Half of Augusta Hope and All My Mothers.
The first book in the contract, Maybe, Perhaps, Possibly, will be published in June 2024. Editor-at-large Suzie Dooré acquired UK and Commonwealth rights excluding Canada, from Susan Armstrong at C&W Agency.
Maybe, Perhaps, Possibly is described by the publisher as a literary love story about two outsiders who can’t quite work out their places in the world, let alone allow anyone else into their hearts.
The synopsis reads: “Addie has lived on a tiny island with her mother for almost as long as she can remember, surrounded by birds and wildflowers and finding her escape swimming underwater. Sol has come to a retreat on the neighbouring island to mourn his mother and recover from an immense betrayal. Meeting is just the beginning…”
Glen said: “’I am very happy to be publishing two more books with Suzie Dooré and the wonderful team at The Borough Press, and am grateful for their energy, creativity and commitment. Maybe, Perhaps, Possibly is a love story between two people who don’t have the necessary skills to fall in love. Sol and Addie are drawn to the natural world – dolphins, puffins, and eider ducks – much more than to other humans. That’s until they catch sight of each other in the wild. I’ll be thankful, as always, to every reader who chooses to read it.”
Armstrong said: “Maybe, Perhaps, Possibly is an exquisite tale of two introverts whose shared passion for the natural world brings them together across the wild and windswept islands off the coasts of Northumberland. I feel grateful to Suzie Dooré and the brilliant team at The Borough Press.”
Dooré commented: “Joanna Glen’s fans are going to be delighted with Maybe, Perhaps, Possibly – she has surpassed herself.”
