Crime and Mystery Club, a sister company of Oldcastle Books, has netted a cosy crime series called The Poppy Mystery Tales by Leigh Russell.
Publisher Ion Mills acquired world rights, including print e-book and audio, directly from the author. Audio rights have been licensed to Bolinda for the first three titles. Barking Up The Right Tree, the first in the series, will be published in March 2023 with Barking Mad following in June 2023 and Poppy Takes the Lead provisionally scheduled for the autumn.
Described as "page-turning and heart-warming" by the publisher, the series is set in an idyllic English village and Poppy, a lively puppy inspired by Russell’s daughter’s rescue dog. Poppy will help her owners solve mysteries throughout the series.
Mills commented: "Having worked so successfully with Leigh for over 13 years and 20 books, including her bestselling Geraldine Steel series, I am delighted to be embarking on this wonderful new series."
Senior rights and content manager for Bolinda, Ellis Moore, said: "As soon as I read the submission from Oldcastle Books, I knew that Leigh Russell’s exciting new series would be a brilliant fit for Bolinda’s audiobook list. Barking Up the Right Tree blends cosy crime with the gripping pace we know and love from such a prolific crime author, making for exceptional storytelling — we are really excited to bring the series to life in audio."
Russell commented: "I am over the moon that Crime and Mystery Club will be publishing my next series, The Poppy Mystery Tales. Moving from police procedurals to cosy crime has been a really enjoyable challenge, and I hope that readers will fall in love with Poppy."
