Chatto & Windus has acquired rights to Rachel Hewitt's non-fiction book exploring the female experience.
Poppy Hampson, editorial director at Chatto & Windus, has acquired, on proposal, UK and Commonwealth rights to In Her Nature, from Tracy Bohan at The Wylie Agency.
“In Her Nature focuses on female experiences of nature, and recovers encounters and legacies often overshadowed, unnamed and potentially lost within a male- dominated canon of nature writing and natural history,” said the publisher. “In a book that is alert to moments of rupture and continuity throughout history, we learn new things about how women have coped with clothing and equipment designed for male bodies; about differences in the way that men and women move around public space; about women’s exclusion from sporting competitions and scientific societies; and about how wild landscapes can be sites for fear and guilt and male violence, as well as solitude and freedom.”
Full manuscript to be delivered in Autumn 2021.
