Sophie Kinsella’s 2003 novel Can You Keep a Secret? (Black Swan) is being made into a film starring "San Andreas" and "Baywatch" actress Alexandra Daddario.
Production for the book, which was Kinsella’s first standalone novel after her Shopaholic series launched, will begin in autumn. According to Transworld, to date it has sold 1.5 million copies in the UK and been translated into more than 40 languages.
Elise Duran will direct the romantic comedy "Can You Keep a Secret?" while Daddario will star in the lead role of Emma Corrigan.
In the story, protagonist Emma is a woman with few secrets. On a turbulent plane ride, while thinking she's about to die, she spills them all to a handsome stranger sitting next to her. When she gets back to work, she realises that stranger is none other than Jack Harper, the company's elusive c.e.o., and now a man who knows every single humiliating detail about her.
Peter Hutchings adapted the book for the screen and Claude Dal Farra, Brice Dal Farra and Brian Keady of BCDF Pictures are producers. Charles Miller is an executive producer and Embankment Films is selling international territories.
According to Deadline, the film is slated for early next year. And, as well as developing the film, BCDF has partnered with a new start-up, Fiction Riot, to develop mobile content for it.
Kinsella commented: "I’m absolutely thrilled that Can You Keep a Secret? is going to become a movie and I know my readers around the world will look forward to it just as much as I do. I am very excited that Alexandra Daddario is to play Emma and I can’t wait to see the story come alive on screen."
Kinsella's novels have sold 40 million copies worldwide. She is best known for her Shopaholic series, including The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic that Disney adapted for wide release in 2009 as "Confessions of a Shopaholic", featuring Isla Fisher as Becky Bloomwood, a financial journalist who can’t stop shopping.
A re-jacketed reissue of Can You Keep a Secret? is on sale from 9th August.
