The Daily Show's Trevor Noah to publish his memoir with John Murray

Comedian Trevor Noah, the host of "The Daily Show" on TV channel Comedy Central, is publishing his first book, a memoir, with John Murray.

Georgina Laycock at John Murray acquired UK and Commonwealth rights to the comedian's book, as yet unnamed, from Abner Stein on behalf of Foundry Media, Inc.

The book contains a collection of personal stories about growing up in South Africa during the last gasps of apartheid. Already known for his incisive social and political commentary, Noah turns his focus inward to give readers "an intimate look at the world that shaped him".

The book is said to be written in the tradition of David Sedaris as "sometimes dark, occasionally bizarre, frequently tender, and always hilarious".

The memoir will be published in the UK in November 2016. Spiegel & Grau will publish simultaneously in the US, Macmillan in South Africa.

Laycock said: "I’ve been a fan of Trevor’s comedy for years but this is something else. He has written a brilliant, important book, even funnier than his stand-up: with the added bonus that his unexpected stories build up into a fascinating personal history of South Africa. We can’t wait to get everyone reading it."

Noah added: “I couldn't find a good book about myself so I decided to write one. And just like me this book doesn't have an appendix.”

Born under apartheid to a black South African mother and a white European father, Noah’s "rise to stardom" begin with his one-man show at the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The Racist, which became a sold-out run. He has appeared on "QI", "Eight Out of 10 Cats", "The Royal Variety Performance" and "Live at the Apollo". He first joined Comedy Central’s global hit, "The Daily Show" as a contributor in 2014 and succeeded Jon Stewart as host in 2015. He continues to tour all over the world, recently performing in front of huge crowds at the Edinburgh Festival, the Shepherd’s Bush Apollo and the Sydney Opera House. He will be coming to the UK on publication.
