Daphne Press has scooped The Ouroboros fantasy duology from H E Edgmon.
Commissioning editor Davi Lancett acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Sylvan Creekmore at Wednesday Books. Godly Heathens, the first book in the series, will be published in November 2023 with the sequel following in April 2024. It marks Lancett’s first acquisition at Daphne Press.
The duology follows a non-binary Seminole teen who discovers they are the reincarnated god of magic and must destroy the one weapon capable of killing a god, before the lives and loves they’ve had through the centuries catch up with them.
Lancett said: "Godly Heathens is an exceptional book bursting with character, fun, chaos and authenticity. It’s so exciting to see a book that spotlights their character’s transgender experience in such an engaging way and I can’t wait for readers to discover Gem and their wonderful, messy lives."
Edgmon added: “I could not be more excited to have my work coming to the UK for the first time, and I can’t imagine a more perfect UK publisher for this series than Daphne Press. While wrapped in a package of magic and romance, the Ouroboros Duology is, at its core, a tribute to survivors. It’s about the ways we remake ourselves while trying to outrun our demons—and the way those demons always come calling, one way or another, no matter who we’ve become. And in the same way the gods in this story have remade themselves for lifetimes, I am beyond confident Daphne Press is going to give these books a stunning new incarnation. I can’t wait.”
