Daphne Press has scooped a "snarky and sexy" reimagining for the Ariadne and Dionysus myth from Cait Corrain in Crown of Starlight.
Commissioning editor Davi Lancett acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Rachel Kind at Penguin Random House US. The novel will be published in hardback and e-book in May 2024, simultaneously with the US.
Corrain’s science-fiction reimagining situates the myth in a "galaxy full of monstrous men, bloodthirsty gods and a young woman coming into her own and falling fiercely in love".
Lancett said: "I was absolutely swept up by this wild ride of a novel and did not want it to stop. Ariadne is a supernova of a character, exploding out of her isolated upbringing as priestess and heir to a planetary death cult into a political game of factions and backstabbing that spans the galaxy. She isn’t afraid to stand eye to eye with a god and will not back down. Olympus wasn’t ready for her and neither was I. It’s spicy, smart, and sings to my Hades-loving heart."
Corrain added: "While it’s absolutely a snarky, sexy, slow-burn, space-opera romp, at its core, this is a story about love, sacrifice, sexual agency, embracing your identity as a form of rebellion against oppression, and the difficult choices we all make between facing our fears, or losing the chance to become who we’re meant to be."
