Daphne Press has signed Overgrowth, a "refreshing take on a first contact story", from Mira Grant.
Commissioning editor Davi Lancett acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Chris Scheina, director of subsidiary rights at Macmillan USA. The novel will be published in May 2025.
Grant’s agent, Diana Fox, said: "I couldn’t be more delighted that Mira Grant’s long-awaited return has found a home in the UK with Daphne Press, and know that the combination of their publishing artistry with her signature style of science-fiction horror will make for something truly special.”
Pitched as "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" meets Day of the Triffids "by way of ’Arrival’", Overgrowth is told from the perspective of a pre-invasion alien scout who cannot help but be human, even though she warns everyone she is anything but.
Lancett commented: “Overgrowth is a harrowing and timely look at the human species from an utterly alien, but worryingly relatable point of view. Much like the plant-based invaders, this book will embed its roots in you and refuse to let go.”
Grant added: “I am so excited to be finally issuing the warning about the coming invasion on a wider scale, and while it’s too late now to stop the armada’s arrival, I hope the early preparation will help each and every reader into the green.”
