Datura Books has acquired Gemma Amor’s gothic horror The Folly, which was previously published by Polis Books.
Following a "rights reversion" to Amor, publisher Eleanor Teasdale bought world English physical and digital rights from Mark Falkin, and The Folly will be published on 12th November.
"The Folly is a visceral mystery and family drama, a dark examination of love, loyalty, guilt and possession that draws on the very real horror of betrayal by those closest to us, by those we love the best," the synopsis says.
Amor said: “I am beyond excited that The Folly will be finding a new home with Datura. The story means so much to me. It’s my love letter to the works of du Maurier, to the wonderful, evocative Cornish coastline, and the strangeness of solitude. This novel deals with several themes very close to my heart, and I’m so happy my odd possession crime-horror will have a fresh opportunity to reach readers."
Teasdale added: "I loved working with Gemma Amor so much on her beautiful and terrifying Full Immersion [Angry Robot] for the AR list that when the chance came to snap up The Folly for Datura I couldn’t miss it. It’s classic Gemma writing – compelling, atmospheric and impossible to tear yourself away from."
