Datura Books, an imprint of Angry Robot, has scooped Honeycomb, a high-concept thriller from S B Caves.
Editor Ella Chappell acquired world English language, e-book and audio rights from Laura Williams at Greene & Heaton. The book will be published on 9th July 2024.
Honeycomb follows Amanda Pearson who, after securing a record deal and then becoming involved with drugs and alcohol, has recovered but failed to re-establish her career. When Amanda’s ex-manager informs her of an opportunity to both alleviate her financial situation and get her back in the spotlight, it appears simple: six strangers live in a mansion under constant observation for a week and each day they take a pill, but only one of them will be taking the experimental drug, the other five are taking a placebo. But as days go by cracks begin to show in the group and Amanda realises that the mansion is rigged with no way out.
Caves commented: “I’m absolutely delighted that my new novel, Honeycomb, is going to be published by the wonderful team at Datura. Special thanks goes to my brilliant editor Ella Chappell and my awesome agent Laura Williams for their enthusiasm, advice and support throughout the whole process. Honeycomb was so much fun to write, and I can only hope that readers enjoy the ride as much as I did.”
Chappell added: “I immediately loved the premise of Honeycomb. The mystery of the pill as the main hook, insight into the world of fame and obsession, plus a can’t-look-away escalation of horror — a delicious mix. It is extremely readable, fast-paced and with fantastic characterization. I’m so excited to call it a part of the Datura list.”
