David Solomons has signed on to write two "Doctor Who" stories for BBC Children’s Books, an imprint of Penguin Random House Children’s UK.
The first book, The Secret in Vault 13, will feature the 13th Doctor (to be played on TV by Jodie Whittaker) and friends Graham, Ryan and Yasmin. The story follows the group as they race against an old enemy to infiltrate the Galactic Seed Vault – a treasure trove of plant specimens from across the galaxy, located at the coldest spot in the universe. It will be published on 1st November.
A second book, as yet untitled, will follow in autumn 2019.
BBC Children’s Books acquired the world rights from Mark Stanton at The North Literary Agency.
Ruth Knowles, publisher at PRH Children’s: “We have watched the wonderful David Solomons take the middle-grade world by storm with his novels. They’re full of incredible characters, excitement and humour. These are also the things that make Doctor Who so very special and so we are delighted to have David bring the Thirteenth Doctor to the page for young people in 2018.”
Solomons won the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize in 2016 and the British Book Industry Awards Children’s Book of the Year 2016 for his first book, My Brother is a Superhero. The second title, My Gym Teacher is an Alien Overlord, was awarded a 2018 Laugh Out Loud Award.
