Dead Ink Books has snapped up Gerardo Sámano Córdova’s "horror-tinged fable", Monstrilio.
Commissioning editor Harriet Hirshman acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Sierra Stovall at Zando Projects. The book will be published in the UK on 27th June 2024.
The synopsis says: "A thought-provoking meditation on grief, acceptance, and the monstrous sides of love and loyalty, Gerardo Sámano Córdova blends bold imagination and evocative prose with deep emotional rigour. Told in four acts that span the globe from Mexico to Brooklyn to Berlin, Monstrilio offers, with uncanny clarity, a cathartic and precise portrait of being human.”
Hirshman said: “Monstrilio is simply breathtaking. Sámano Córdova paints an avant-garde portrait of grief through intricate prose and a humour that’s tinged with a tender peculiarity. I haven’t stopped thinking about this book since I finished reading it.”
Córdova added: “I wrote Monstrilio wondering how far love could be stretched. Can love ever break? If so, what could break it? I put a family to the test, a family that had to love a monster. The book is many things, but its core is love: family love, self love, queer love.”
