Dead Ink has signed dystopian debut Big Time from Australian author Jordan Prosser. Commissioning editor Harriet Hirshman acquired British and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada and Australia/New Zealand, for Prosser’s novel from Erin Sandiford at University of Queensland Press.
Hirshman said: “I was absolutely floored by this spectacular novel. Prosser creates a horrifying future in the Federal Republic of East Australia, exploring the intricacies of fascism and tyranny with a cast of characters that are equal parts hilarious and self-indulgent. This wildly entertaining novel is as touching as it is terrifying. I’m so excited to bring Prosser’s extraordinary work to the UK.”
Prosser said: "I’m so excited for Big Time to join the ranks of Dead Ink’s immaculate fiction line-up. More broadly, I’m thrilled to have my work arriving in the UK, a place I long considered my second home, and a place that inspired not only some of the key locations in my book, but many of its overarching themes."
Prosser is a writer, film-maker and performer from Victoria. He is a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts, and his short films and screenplays have won multiple international accolades. His short story Eleuterio Cabrera’s Beautiful Game won the Peter Carey Short Story Award in 2022 and was published in the Australian literary magazine Meanjin.
