Faber & Faber is to publish The Impossible Fortress, a debut novel by Jason Rekulak.
The publisher bought UK and Commonwealth rights excluding Canada at auction from Caspian Dennis at Abner Stein on behalf of Doug Stewart at Sterling Lord Literistic, for publication in Spring 2017.
Set in 1987, the coming-of-age story follows Billy and his two friends on their quest for a copy of the latest Playboy magazine. Its cover star: Vanna White, "Wheel of Fortune" presenter and, to them, the most beautiful woman alive. The boys devise a series of increasingly intricate and dangerous heists in the pursuit of their goal. Along the way, Billy bonds with fellow computer geek Mary over a game called 'The Impossible Fortress' – and soon realises that there's more to her than meets the eye.
It will be published in the US by Simon & Schuster and rights have also been sold in six other territories.
Rekulak is the publisher of Quirk Books, an independent publishing house based in Philadelphia, USA, known for the New York Times bestseller Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
