Deixis Press acquires two 'beautifully crafted' historical fictions

New independent publisher Deixis Press has acquired two historical fiction novels: Some Rise By Sin by Siôn Scott-Wilson (pictured) and The Workshop of Filthy Creation by Richard Gadz, the pen name of author Simon Cheshire.

Scott-Wilson's Some Rise By Sin is set in Regency London and is billed as a "rich, authentic, and absorbing historical novel with a dark edge." Gadz's The Workshop of Filthy Creation "uses a Frankenstein-ian thread to stitch together elements of real scientific history with the darkest parts of Victorian London and speculation on the nature of human life."

Angel Belsey, who previously worked as an agent for Scott-Wilson and Gadz before becoming editorial director and founder of Deixis Press, acquired world English language rights to both titles directly from the authors.

Belsey commented: "I'm incredibly excited by these two books as I don't think there is anything else quite like them on the market. They are both beautifully crafted, historical novels with dark, horror elements. They are also both deeply philosophical but highly readable, with themes around class and poverty that are really relevant to a modern audience.

"While Deixis Press leans toward literary fiction, we are particularly interested in well-structured genre fiction, and cross-genre work that defies categorisation – something that Some Rise By Sin and The Workshop of Filthy Creation bring to our list."
