Del Rey has bagged a Norse-inspired fantasy romance duology from Danielle L Jensen, beginning with A Fate Inked In Blood.
Sam Bradbury, publishing director, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Rachel Kind at Del Rey US who pre-empted world English rights from Tamar Rydzinski at Context Literary Agency. The first book will be published in February 2024.
"I knew the minute I read this manuscript that it was extremely special, and I am so happy that A Fate Inked In Blood found its home with the passsionate team at Del Rey," said Rydzinski.
Jensen is also the author of the TikTok "sensation" series The Bridge Kingdom. Her new duology follows a shield maiden who "becomes trapped in a union with a power-hungry jarl convinced she is fated to make him king. Eager to prove her strength, and survive the machinations of both the jarl, and his cruel wife, she must train to fight and learn to control her magic, while battling her dangerous attraction to the jarl’s son, a beautfiul and witty warrior who wields the fire of the gods".
Jensen said: "I’m absolutely delighted to be working with the team at Del Rey, and I can’t wait for UK readers to meet Freya and Bjorn!"
Bradbury added: "Danielle is a hugely talented author, and her books are totally engaging, inspiring, clever and steamy. I’m so thrilled to have her join the Del Rey UK family and I can’t wait to launch this new series with the huge fanfare it deserves. I fell in love with Freya and Bjorn from the very first page and I know readers everywhere will feel the same."
