Del Rey has landed a new untitled book from Andy Weir, author of The Martian and Project Hail Mary.
Ben Brusey, publishing director, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Denise Cronin at Penguin Random House (PRH) US. World rights went to Julian Pavia at Ballantine, PRH US, following a "major" deal with David Fugate at LaunchBooks Literary Agency.
Weir’s 2021 science fiction novel Project Hail Mary (Cornerstone) is under adaptation for a film starring Ryan Gosling with the author producing and co-writing the script.
Brusey said: "Every new Andy Weir book is a publishing event. Andy is a master storyteller with a unique ability to blend humour with cutting-edge science and human drama. His delightful imagination makes him science fiction’s heir apparent to Douglas Adams and Arthur C Clarke. We are thrilled to be publishing Andy once again, and partnering with Julian Pavia and his great team at Ballantine on what will be another global bestseller."
