Publisher Cassie Browne acquired UK and Commonwealth rights with exclusive European rights for Anything Could Happen and one untitled novel from Lizzy Kremer at David Higham Associates for publication in January 2022 and early 2023 respectively.
Quercus Anything Could Happen as “a warm, wise, funny and uplifting novel about love, second chances and the unexpected paths life can take us down”.
Diamond is a former publisher and the author of 16 novels, including The Promise, The Year of Taking Chances and An Almost Perfect Holiday, all published by Pan Macmillan. Her first book, Any Way You Want Me, was published by Pan Macmillan in 2007. She has sold 907,678 print books in the UK for £4.2m, according to Nielsen BookScan.
Diamond said: "I was blown away by the enthusiasm and creativity of the Quercus pitch – after a lockdown year when the world seemed to be at a standstill, it was hugely exciting to hear its brilliant ideas for Anything Could Happen and feel energised again. Cassie has already proved to be a dream editor, and I'm really looking forward to working with her and the rest of the talented team on this book and others.”
Kremer said: “Lucy Diamond has written the perfect novel for our lives today: a reminder that every day can hold surprise and delight, that nothing has to be finished or predictable in all the best ways.”
Browne said: “I am thrilled to be welcoming Lucy Diamond to Quercus and to be embarking on this new relationship with such an extraordinary and successful writer. Lucy is such a stylish storyteller and her characteristic wit and joy sparkles on every page of Anything Could Happen, a hopeful and big-hearted novel that also explores regret, betrayal and the cost of keeping secrets. It absolutely announces a breakout moment for Lucy and I just can’t wait for her thousands of readers to fall for it next year.”
