DK is partnering with Pride in London to publish ABC Pride, an educational book combining the classic ABC learning format with “inspirational” information by Dr Elly Barnes and Louie Stowell.
The partnership was agreed between senior acquisitions editor Katy Flint and Dan O’Gorman, commercial director at Pride in London. ABC Pride will be publishing in June 2022, timed to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of the first Pride March in the UK. Pride London will be giving a percentage of the sales to Pride in London’s Unity Fund, which supports LGBTQ+ groups.
Barnes, an experienced educationalist and founder and c.e.o. of Educate & Celebrate, wrote the book alongside children’s writer Stowell, author of Loki (Walker) and Otherland (Nosy Crow). ABC Pride is illustrated by Amy Phelps, known for their drawings of LGBTQ+ themes and positive messages about mental health. The book is aimed at children aged three and over.
Flint said: “We are excited to be partnering with Pride in London and supporting the organisation in this landmark year, celebrating 50 years since the first Pride March in the UK. All children should grow up feeling seen and understood, and we hope this book sets them up with the vocabulary and confidence they need to understand themselves and each other.”
O’Gorman added: “Pride in London advocates for visibility, unity and equality for all LGBT+ people, and ABC Pride is a fantastic and timely way to educate today’s children on the importance of these concepts in our modern world. We are delighted to be partnering with DK on this important initiative as we look forward to the next 50 years of LGBT+ life in the UK.”
