DK Life has acquired the debut book by heirloom seed expert and gardener Mitch McCulloch.
Global rights for The Seed Hunter: Discover the World’s Most Unusual Heirloom Plants were snapped up by editorial manager Ruth O’Rourke-Jones, in a deal with Stuart Cooper at Stuart Cooper Agency. DK will publish as an illustrated hardback on 3rd October.
A former chef, McCulloch (@mitch_grows) has built an engaged audience across his social media channels by sharing his mission to save heirloom seeds, posting unique and informative content about his rare and unusual grows.
“The Seed Hunter offers readers the antithesis of mass-produced hybrids and genetically modified seeds,” the publisher said. “Mitch provides a modern take on heirloom plants that create a connection with the past, using seeds that have been passed down through generations, and have been preserved by a dedicated community of growers.”
O’Rourke said: “Mitch is a refreshing new voice in the world of growing food. His enthusiasm is boundless as he seeks out the very best heirloom varieties to grow, cook and enjoy. He has a real gift for storytelling, which shines through and makes his narrative truly unique. We are delighted to welcome him to DK and share his journey of discovery.”
McCulloch added: “Driven by my profound passion and enthusiasm for exploring, preserving and promoting the diverse world of heirloom seeds, writing this book has been a true joy. Collaborating with DK is a dream come true, as I believe we are crafting something that will stand the test of time, just like these precious heirloom seeds. I look forward to sharing the realm of heritage varieties and I hope to see The Seed Hunter find its way into the hands of curious growers and adventurous cooks.”
