DK has announced a partnership with the Science Museum, publishing a range of books that take inspiration from the museum’s collection of scientific, technological and medical advancement. World rights were acquired from Luigi Bonomi at LBA Books.
The publisher is collaborating on two titles, one written by Roger Highfield, the Science Museum Group’s science director, and one compiled by the museum’s curators.
The series launches in March 2024 with Stephen Hawking: Genius at Work, which coincides with the tour of Stephen Hawking at Work, a new display featuring highlights from Professor Hawking’s office. Two titles, Physics: 100 Ideas in 100 Words and Maths: 100 Ideas in 100 Words, will also be published in March 2024, while a A Brief History of Stuff and Biology: 100 Ideas in 100 Words will be published in May 2024.
These books will be informed by the Science Museum Group’s exhibitions, objects and stories of scientific achievement. DK will also commission original text and illustrations to create a new series of science explainers on scientific discovery.
Pete Jorgensen, DK’s senior acquisitions editor for licensing, said: "For DK, a partnership with the Science Museum Group makes perfect sense. We both share a passion for making knowledge accessible and people trust us to help them better understand the world around us."
Highfield added: "It has been a huge honour to work on Stephen Hawking: Genius at Work on a personal level, since I worked with Stephen over several decades, and on a professional level, given the book provided the opportunity to share his incredible story and write about fascinating objects from his Cambridge office that the Science Museum Group now cares for. I can’t think of a more fitting book to launch the Science Museum Group’s partnership with DK."
