DK is publishing Down to Earth: Gardening Wisdom by Monty Don this autumn, in which the "Gardeners' World" TV presenter will share his thoughts on colour, nature, growing vegetables and month-by-month life in the garden.
World rights were acquired by publishing director Mary Clare Jerram from Alexandra Henderson at Alexandra Henderson Associates, to publish this autumn on 7th October.
The book, "the distillation of 50 years of gardening experience" according to Don, is designed to inspire readers to "think about gardens in a different light". Examples include suggesting plants to entice birds and bees and describing the joy to be found in sharing a home-grown crop. The tone of the book will be both lyrical and conversational, and its content relevant to anyone with a garden. Don's prose will meanwhile be interspersed with full-colour images showcasing his ideas in practice in his own garden.
“This is Monty talking about the things he cares about, and what he does at home that he hopes is relevant to anyone with a garden,” explained Jerram. "Monty writes in the same way that he talks so reading the book you feel as if he is standing right beside you, sharing his years of experience.”
Don said: “I am delighted that Down To Earth is to be published by DK this autumn. I have written many gardening books but this is the distillation of 50 years of gardening experience. It has all the tips and essential pieces of knowledge that enable you to make your garden grow well, and it also shares my view that gardening is the secret to living well too.”
Publication will be supported by a "high-profile" marketing and PR campaign, DK said.
