DK RED has acquired a "radical" plant-based cookbook and "low-waste manual" from content creator Alessandro Vitale, also known as @SpicyMoustache.
The new DK imprint will publish Low Waste Kitchen: Recipes to Reduce Waste and Live Life Sustainably in Spring 2025 in the UK and US. Cara Armstrong, editorial director at DK Life, acquired world rights from Crystal Mahey-Morgan at OWN IT!.
Vitale, who has 4.6 million followers on Instagram and 2.7 million on TikTok, posts "fast-paced and easy-to-follow" videos on low-waste cooking and is now transferring his recipes to book form.
Low Waste Kitchen includes 100 low-waste recipes for "delicious" plant-based meals and snacks, as well as suggestions for how to make leftover fruit, vegetables and store-cupboard staples go further. The book also includes advice on how to make your own household products, plus tips on food storage, shopping and more.
Vitale said: "Waste isn’t just what we discard, it’s what we fail to appreciate. Just like nature, where nothing goes unused, we have the power to live with purpose, making the most of what we have. This is how we honour the past and inspire a better future. We don’t need to be perfect, we just need to be better!"
Armstrong said: "Alessandro is a phenomenal talent who bridges the wonderful worlds of gardening and cookery so seamlessly. Alessandro’s ability to make plant-based, low-waste cooking both exciting and delicious has won him fans the world over and we are delighted to be publishing his first ever cookbook brimming with recipes to help you live more sustainably, starting in the kitchen."
