DK has signed a bumper crop of authors for its 2022 gardening list, including regulars Huw Richards, Adam Frost and Kate Bradbury, as well as new signings Charles Dowding, Mr Plant Geek and fashion designer Bella Gonshorovitz.
Richards, known for his gardening videos on YouTube, will publish his third title for DK, The Vegetable Grower’s Handbook, in March 2022. It is a guide to maximising your garden harvest. BBC "Gardeners’ World" presenter Frost follows-up his 2019 title with RHS The Creative Gardener in April, which promises to be "full of practical projects to make your outdoor space your own".
Wildlife gardener Bradbury publishes her second book for DK in September 2022, in which she reveals the amazing effect planting just one tree in your garden can have for people, the planet and wildlife. Gardening writer Kendra Wilson also joins the list with Garden for the Senses in March.
Next year will also see three further Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) titles published with authors new to DK: RHS How to Garden When You Rent by Matthew Pottage publishes in February, RHS Roses by leading rosarian, Michael V Marriott, comes in May, and plantsman Phil Clayton brings a seasonal look at planting through the year, with his book in October.
Dowding will publish with DK for the first time in autumn 2022 with a “no-dig gardening bible”. His no-dig garden, designed with Stephanie Hafferty, attracted huge interest at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival earlier this year. Michael Perry, known online as Mr Plant Geek, also joins the DK fold with his debut book coming in September 2022. Perry won the 2020 Garden Media Guild Social Media Influencer of the Year award.
Marriott, Dowding, Perry, Clayton and Wilson were all signed by Chris Young, DK's consultant gardening publisher, who said: "Over the past couple of years the interest in gardening has continued to expand—we now have 30 million gardeners in the UK and books are a key part of that market. We have invested heavily in keeping our core DK books going, but also broadening the types of books we do: 2022 is the start of some really exciting book publishing for gardening, and for anyone who loves to be outside, growing plants and being part of the natural world. We’re delighted to welcome familiar and new authors to the DK world."
Finally, Grow, Cook, Dye, Wear by prize-winning fashion designer, dressmaker and writer Gonshorovitz is published in April 2022. This book takes a different look at growing by using home-grown plants for both food and dying fabrics for clothes. She was signed by life publishing director Katie Cowan.
