The Dome Press has bought world English rights to The Last Crossing, the first standalone novel from Brian McGilloway. Rights were acquired from David Headley at D H H Literary Agency, which set up Dome Press in 2017.
The Last Crossing begins 30 years ago, when four friends entered a woodland near Glasgow; only three of them returned. A lifetime later the same three friends meet again, to return to the woods to see where they buried their friend. The publisher describes it as “a story about memory, love, guilt and the consequences of violence.”
Rebecca Lloyd of The Dome Press said: “Brian McGilloway has a great reputation as a crime novelist but The Last Crossing covers a subject and an era close to his heart. He brings all his crime skills to the Troubles of Northern Ireland and their lingering legacy. Its meditative tone is very striking and emotive, set against the tension and drama of the events. We are thrilled to be publishing him.”
McGilloway’s debut Borderlands, published by Macmillan New Writing, was shortlisted for the CWA New Blood Dagger in 2007; his first DS Lucy Black novel, Little Girl Lost, was a New York Times bestseller.
The Last Crossing is scheduled for publication in spring 2020.
