Doubleday has acquired a short story collection from Curtis Sittenfeld as part of a three-book deal. Doubleday deputy publisher Jane Lawson acquired the collection as part of a three-book deal from Fiona Baird at WME on behalf of Claudia Ballard. Sittenfeld is the author of seven Sunday Times and New York Times bestselling novels, including Romantic Comedy, American Wife, Rodham and Prep, and of the acclaimed story collection, You Think It, I’ll Say It.
Lawson said: “A Sittenfeld publication is always a huge cause for celebration among her growing fanbase, and it is especially thrilling to bring this dazzling collection to readers next spring. Sittenfeld is a recognised mistress of the form, whose stories have been published in the New Yorker, the Atlantic, the Financial Times and elsewhere. Her heroines, those who habitually misread the room or who somehow trip as they enter, are vividly characterised in witty, crafted prose and faultless dialogue, as she navigates universal themes of love, sex, prejudice, gender, class, race, celebrity, technology and much else.”
Sittenfeld said: “I’m thrilled to share these stories with my readers. I love reading and writing short stories because they can pack so much depth and emotion into such a condensed format. And it’s a joy to continue working with Doubleday, my publisher since 2008!”
Campaign highlights include exclusive proof packs, branded merch, bespoke POS, reviews and interviews, as well as online events. A digital campaign will include influencer activity, digital advertising, supported with curated extract drops on the Penguin website and a book trailer. Doubleday will also be exploring partnership opportunities to widen her fanbase even further, introducing Sittenfeld to new audiences across formats and platforms.
Doubleday will publish in hardback in February 2025 alongside Random House in the US.
