Duckworth has scooped Jaime Green’s "captivating" account for the search for extra-terrestrial life.
Rowan Cape, publisher, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights including audio from Nora Rawn at Harlequin US. The book will be published in April 2023.
The publisher wrote: "In The Possibility of Life, acclaimed science writer Jaime Green traces the history of our understanding of what life is and could be, from Galileo and Copernicus through to our current tracking of exoplanets in the ‘Goldilocks zone’, where life akin to ours on Earth might exist."
Cope commented: "As the James Webb space telescope begins to transmit its extraordinary images of deep space, where the odds are that life is flourishing on some star system(s) we are yet to understand, it seems fitting to announce our acquisition of Jaime Green’s deeply informed, quick-witted and entertaining book. The Possibility of Life examines not only the science that drives our search for extra-terrestrial life but also what our hopes and fears about it reveal of our visions of life here on Earth – our capabilities and limitations."
Green added: "Humanity filters so many meaningful questions through the vast possibilities of space. Every time we ask big questions about science, every time we learn something new about the universe, we gain a new understanding of ourselves in relation, too. This book is my exploration of some of that science and the stories we tell alongside it, and I’m thrilled that Duckworth is helping bring it into the world."
