Ebury Self has acquired a manual on how to confront toxic family dynamics, It’s Them, Not You: How to Break Free from Toxic Parents and Reclaim Your Story, by wellbeing coach and breathwork teacher Josh Connolly.
Publishing director Olivia Morris bought world all-language rights direct from the author. The book will be published on Vermilion in trade paperback and e-book on 11th July 2024.
It’s Them, Not You will equip readers with a deeper understanding of toxic family dynamics and provide the tools they need to deal with emotionally immature parents and family members, Ebury said.
“With 10 exclusive guided breathworks, practical exercises and journal prompts, this is the ultimate handbook for healing your inner child, getting unstuck and breaking free from past trauma,” the publisher added.
Connolly is a resilience and wellbeing coach, certified breathwork practitioner and founder of the Inner You self-healing programme.
As a mental health advocate and ambassador for Nacoa UK, Connolly is a leading voice in addiction recovery and dysfunctional family environments, and regularly creates content on these subjects for his 350,000 social followers.
Connolly said: “This book is a combination of all of my learnings from over a decade supporting those who have grown up in dysfunction. I believe that this book can not only help to give them validation but can also help them to truly find themselves.”
Acting publishing director Anna Bowen said: “In an increasingly ‘trauma literate’ world, toxic parenting can still be a taboo subject – despite this being a common experience. Josh is an empowering voice for the many people who are navigating this reality, and we are delighted to be publishing his much-needed book.”
